Make a Batch of Cran-Apple Tartlets for the Holidays

by Missouri Life

Making tartlets for the holidays could become your newest tradition. The pecans in the crust in this recipe make for a nice crunch and a perfect balance for the tart cranberries and the tangy apples. Top them with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1⁄2 cup pecans, finely chopped
1⁄4 cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg
1 1⁄2 cups fresh whole cranberries
2 small Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
1 1⁄2 tablespoons grated orange zest
3⁄4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground cloves

Directions:

1. Combine flour, pecans, and sugar. Blend in butter and egg until mixture begins to crumble.

2. Press dough into the bottom and sides of a mini tart pan or small muffin pan, forming a thin wall. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.

3. Preheat oven to 350° F. Combine remaining ingredients and spoon into chilled tart shells.

4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the fruit is bubbly.

Yields 24-30 tarts
