January 29: Margaret Truman christens the new USS Missouri battleship by breaking a champagne bottle onboard. Truman, daughter of President Harry S. Truman, graduated with a history degree from George Washington University two years after this photo was taken. She was a singer, author and secretary for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation board of trustees, among many other accomplishments, according to a Truman Library history.
